Synopsis: Fefu and seven of her friends have gathered at her home for the day to plan a charity event. As the women move throughout the house, their conversations reveal the different sides of their personalities and the private struggles they each carry. In between water fights, rabbits, laughter, and moments of tension, they share their dreams, fears, relationships, and frustrations with one another. Although they come together as friends, each woman experiences the pressures and expectations placed on women in very different ways. As the day continues, the playful atmosphere becomes increasingly complicated as the women confront issues of control, violence, identity, and repression. Mar铆a Irene Forn茅s鈥 Obie-winning play, Fefu and Her Friends, follows these eight women as they navigate their relationships with each other and the limitations of the world around them. Through its intimate portrayal of female friendship, the play explores gender inequality and the ways social expectations can affect women鈥檚 freedom, choices, and sense of self.
